The CTC is a casual trail ride competition that is 10 to 14 km with 6 judged obstacles (mostly natural) along the way. Each obstacle has its own judge. It is not a timed event. You are encouraged to ride with your group, family, or friends. When you come to the obstacle & judge, you perform the obstacle one at a time. The trail rides usually take from 2-3 hours. There are often clinics or information sessions to observe while waiting. After you come in from your ride, you can have a meal and get ready for the awards ceremony. Ribbons are given to 1st - 6th place for Open, Pleasure, Scout and Junior divisions. There often prizes either for placing or luck of the draw. There may also be Jackpot cash.
These rides provide a natural setting for your horse and are a lot of fun! At the very least you will enjoy seeing great countryside on horseback and get to know a network of horse lovin' trail riders such as yourself!
ACTHA Obstacle Challenge (AOC) The AOC is held in an arena (indoor or outdoor) or a field with 8 to 12 ACTHA obstacles and 2 or 3 judges. Riders will complete the course twice. At some events the scores are combined and at others they have a Gambler’s Choice. Before the second go, the rider selects to STAY, that is to keep their current score and ride for practice or PLAY, which is to try for a higher score, the first score being discarded. This is not a timed event. Riders can bring multiple horses. Enjoy meals and awards following the competition. Ribbons will be awarded for Open, Pleasure, Scout, In-Hand and Junior Divisions.
Timed Obstacle Challenge (TOC)
The TOC is held in a field or arena. There are 8 to 12 obstacles and the competitors can do which ever obstacles they want in which ever order they want in the time allowed. If you complete an obstacle you get the points for that obstacle. You are not judged on how you do it. You will complete the course twice. At some events the scores will be combined at others it will be a Gambler’s Choice.
All obstacles at these events are ACTHA approved obstacles.
